The Wokingham Bikeathon urgently needs 2 or 3 volunteers to help as Marshalls on the route on Sunday 26th June from 9.00 – 12.00 (at the junction on the A4) or from 10.30 – 13.30 at the Twyford Road entrance back to Cantley Park. The Bikeathon is a family-friendly cycling event from which all of the profits are donated to charities. If the volunteers are connected to a charity or wish to nominate one, we will give a donation to that charity after the event, as a thank you.
If you think you can help please contact Jean Alder on 07802 708122or or via e-mail email@example.com
Details of the Marshall’s role here:
Marshalls are there to make riders aware they may be hazards, including the possibility of oncoming traffic. The riders retain the responsibility to check for hazards themselves before proceeding. It is not the Marshalls’ role to check or to tell riders whether or not it is safe to proceed at that time.
At the two A4 junctions, riders will ride along the A4 for a distance before turning across the oncoming lane onto smaller roads. Marshalls will make riders aware of the distance to the next turning (300 metres in the outbound direction and 30 metres in the inbound direction). If there are young riders that might be unsure of turning across traffic on the A4, then Marshalls will advise them of a pedestrian bridge in the outbound direction and the option of walking across the road in the inbound direction.
There will be a Marshall at the entrance back to Cantley Park. They will make the riders aware they have to ride across the oncoming lane, so the riders need to take care. Hi-vis tabards are supplied.
