It is a relatively flat 26 mile route on generally quiet roads with one short climb. Going out through Waltham St Lawrence, the route crosses the A4 at Hare Hatch before climbing to Crazies Hill first at 13 miles. The route returns through White Waltham and Hurst at 21 miles. The roads will not be closed, so riders will need to take usual care with traffic. At an average speed of 12 miles per hour, it will take about two and a half hours of riding plus any extra time you take at the drinks stops. The latest suggested start time is 10am to ensure the drink stops are open.
Cantley Park, Twyford Rd, Wokingham RG40 5QG
Drink Stops: There are three drinks stops available – the first at Sprocket & Gear in Hare Hatch after 8 miles, the second at White Waltham Parish Hall after 16 miles and the third at Hurst Village Primary School (shared by all four routes).
Look out for the ‘DRINK STOP AHEAD’ and ‘DRINK STOP’ signs indicating the locations. There is a wide range of snacks available free of charge for all participants including sweet treats and fruit, plus water butts to refill your own bottles, and use of the restrooms at each location.
Please be sure to check behind for traffic as you slow down and move off the road at the drinks stop. Also, please park your bike out of the way of traffic and other riders. There is plenty of space for everyone.
Once you set off from the event centre, the route will be marked with the use of arrow signs on a yellow background. Arrow signs will be at all junctions on the route. So quite simply you follow these signs as you come to a junction.
The route signs will direct you around the course and will be found at junctions and turnings.
Course split points will be used to highlight where the route splits between the 15 mile route and the 25 mile route. A red and white ‘course split ahead’ sign will warn riders that the route will split.
